Last night I found myself staring at the ceiling at 2:17 AM. Again. That familiar feeling of doubt creeping in like an unwelcome houseguest who doesn’t understand they’ve overstayed their welcome. Three months into this new business venture, and the results were… well, let’s just say they weren’t exactly matching the vision board on my office wall.
It’s in these midnight moments that trusting the process feels like the hardest thing in the world. We start wondering if we’re just fooling ourselves. If all those visualization exercises and affirmations are just elaborate ways to avoid facing reality.
But here’s what we’ve learned after years of working with the principles of manifestation and mindset: the gap between planting seeds and harvesting fruit is where most people lose their way. And it’s exactly where faith becomes not just important but essential.
The Invisible Bridge Between Effort and Results
Trusting the process is like walking across an invisible bridge. You can’t see the entire structure, just the step directly in front of you. Each footstep requires faith that the next section will materialize when you need it.
We’ve all been there – working toward something meaningful while the evidence of progress remains frustratingly out of sight. Maybe you’re building a business and customer number 100 seems impossible to find. Or you’re healing a relationship and the breakthrough feels like a distant dream. Or perhaps you’re developing a new skill and that plateau has lasted way longer than you expected.
What makes trusting the process so challenging isn’t just the waiting – it’s the uncertainty. Our brains are wired to crave certainty and predictability. When we can’t see clear evidence that our efforts are working, the primitive parts of our mind start sending warning signals: Stop wasting energy! This isn’t working! Find something safer!
It’s perfectly normal. But it’s also the exact moment when most people give up – often right before their breakthrough was about to happen.

Your Mind is Playing Tricks on You (And That’s Normal)
Ever planted a seed and then dug it up every few days to see if it’s growing? Of course not – that would be ridiculous and counterproductive. Yet we do the equivalent with our goals and dreams constantly.
Our minds play tricks on us during the waiting period. They create false narratives about what’s happening:
“Everyone else is getting results faster than me.” “Maybe I’m not cut out for this.” “This always happens to me.” “The universe is trying to tell me something.”
These thoughts aren’t facts – they’re interpretations our minds create to make sense of the gap between action and results. And they’re almost always wrong.
When Sharon was building her coaching practice, she went three months without a single new client. Every morning she visualized a thriving practice. Every day she took consistent action. And every night she wondered if she was delusional. Then in month four, five new clients appeared seemingly out of nowhere. The seeds had been germinating the entire time – invisible to her, but very real.
The process was working all along. Her perception was what needed adjustment.
How to Actually Trust the Process (Not Just Say You Do)
Look, it’s easy to say “trust the process” when everything’s going well. The real test comes when evidence is scarce and doubt is plentiful. So how do you actually do it?
1. Recognize that results are rarely linear. Progress often happens in sudden jumps after long plateaus. This is true in nearly every field – weight loss, business growth, skill development, relationship building. Expecting steady, visible progress is setting yourself up for disappointment.
2. Document small wins obsessively. Our brains have a frustrating tendency to dismiss incremental progress. Start keeping a “evidence journal” where you record any tiny sign that things are working. The person who commented on your social post. The compliment from a stranger. The moment when something felt slightly easier than before.
3. Create a personal timeline of past successes. Write down times in your life when patience and persistence paid off. When did you stick with something despite doubt and eventually break through? These personal examples are powerful faith-builders.
4. Find your faith anchors. What keeps you steady when everything feels uncertain? For some people it’s meditation or prayer. For others it’s reviewing testimonials or feedback. Maybe it’s a conversation with a mentor who sees your potential more clearly than you do. Identify your anchors and use them deliberately.
5. Set process goals instead of outcome goals. Rather than “I will sign 10 new clients this month” (outcome you can’t directly control), try “I will have 30 meaningful conversations this month” (process you can control).
And honestly, sometimes trusting the process means taking a break from thinking about the process altogether. Obsessing over results can create resistance that actually blocks those results from flowing to you.
When It’s NOT About Trusting the Process
Something we need to address: not everything is about blind faith and patience.
Sometimes what looks like “results not coming” is actually valuable feedback that your approach needs adjustment. The trick is knowing the difference between normal delay and actual redirection.
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
Am I taking consistent, aligned action or just hoping and wishing? Have I given this a reasonable timeframe based on the scale of my goal? Am I seeing any indicators of progress, however small? Have others succeeded using similar approaches? Am I being guided to try a different path?
Trust isn’t passive – it’s an active choice you make while continuing to move forward. If you’ve honestly assessed these questions and feel you’re on the right path, that’s when doubling down on trust becomes powerful.
The Faith Muscle Gets Stronger With Exercise
We often talk about faith as if it’s something you either have or don’t have. But faith is more like a muscle – it gets stronger the more you use it.
Every time you choose to trust despite uncertainty, you’re exercising that faith muscle. Every time you continue taking action when results are invisible, you’re getting stronger. Every time you quiet that doubtful inner voice, your capacity for trust expands.
Think about the last time you trusted the process and it paid off. Remember how it felt when the breakthrough finally came? How obvious it all seemed in retrospect? How grateful you were that you didn’t give up?
That’s the feeling we’re cultivating – not blind optimism, but grounded, experienced faith based on understanding how creation actually works.
Trusting the process isn’t about ignoring reality. It’s about understanding a deeper reality: that manifestation follows patterns and principles that often operate beneath the surface of our awareness.

The Middle Path: Faith + Feedback
Real talk: trusting the process doesn’t mean becoming detached from outcomes or ignoring feedback. It means holding two seemingly contradictory ideas simultaneously:
1. Complete faith that your vision is manifesting 2. Complete openness to adjusting your approach based on feedback
This is the middle path – neither rigid attachment to your specific plan nor abandoning your vision when things get tough.
When we’re in the gap between effort and results, this balance is everything. We stay committed to the destination while remaining flexible about the route. We trust deeply while listening carefully.
So tonight, when you find yourself staring at that ceiling at 2 AM wondering if anything is actually happening, remember this: The most powerful manifestations often happen in the dark, below the surface, invisible until the perfect moment of emergence. Your job isn’t to force the flower to bloom, but to keep tending the garden with faith, patience, and consistent aligned action.
Trust the process not because it’s a nice idea, but because it’s how the universe actually works.
